Lockdown Day 9: THE CORONA COCOON
When God wanted to create a butterfly, He designed a caterpillar. Let that sink in for a moment. Maybe, just maybe, this current pandemic is simply paving the way for a new season, a new creation, that will reflect the beauty of the sovereign God that we serve.
The full extent of God’s creative objective sometimes takes place in the cocoon of pain and transformation. There is something majestic in creation recreating its own, evolving within, and then, transforming into beauty. In the cocoon, the caterpillar doesn’t simply grow a new pair of legs, a set of wings, and an exoskeleton. Recreating itself, the caterpillar uses its own enzymes to soupify itself. It evolves by growing new eyes, then transforms by losing its leaf-eating mouth and replaces it with nectar-sucking proboscises. It finally gains its mature reproductive organs so that the full benefit of metamorphosis may be achieved: multiplication and reproduction. Maybe this is what COVID-19 is all about
Beholding how humanity came to a standstill two months ago should remind us about the controversial teachings of Christ – where the poor will be rich, by dying you will live, the weak will be strong, calamity will bring opportunity and the wisdom of the world is foolishness to Christ – what if these teachings have something different to offer in a season of sickness and a time of fear. What if?
We believe! We believe in a God of love. We believe in a God who dwells with His people in the midst of the fire. We believe that He is sovereignly drawing people nearer to Him. We believe!
