Lockdown Day 0: CATHEDRAL THINKING

Lockdown Day 0: CATHEDRAL THINKING

Another thought to contemplate in a season of lockdown. What the world needs now is CATHEDRAL THINKING.

Cathedral thinking is a concept that relates to how ancient cathedrals were built. On the website of Eagle.com it is described as follows:

Cathedral thinking is an exercise in SUPREME DELAYED GRATIFICATION. It dates back to the medieval times when architects were tasked with building cathedrals, none of which would be completed in their lifetime. The challenge they faced was how to use LONG-TERM THINKING and engage with others such that there was a strong commitment to the shared vision.

Being in lockdown for 21 days will require an exercise in supreme delayed gratification. We need to exercise long-term thinking and engage with others to ensure a strong commitment to the shared vision. The inconvenience of the present can never compromise the shared vision of the future.

The biggest obstacle in cathedral thinking is the inability to envision the end product with only the picture you have with you.

Remember “If you’re seeking instant gratification plant a cabbage. If you want long term durability plant an oak tree.”
