PROJECT ETERNAL LIGHT
On 8 April 2026, only hours after the announcement of a Memorandum of Understanding between Iran and the Israel/ USA coalition, Israel launched what it described as its “most powerful attacks” on Lebanon.
Within less than 10 minutes, the Israeli Air Force struck over 100 targets killing more than 360 people and injuring over 1,200. A quarter of the population, 1.5 million people, were displaced.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) fittingly dubbed this campaign: OPERATION ETERNAL DARKNESS.
This attack came on the heels of forty‑five days in which Lebanon endured 8,200 air strikes, leaving more than 4,000 people dead and nearly 12,000 injured. Over 1.5 million people were uprooted from their homes – 1 out of every four Lebanese. More than 230,000 housing units were damaged or destroyed, and food insecurity now threatens the lives of 1.24 million people. Entire districts have been reshaped by destruction, and the country’s already fragile systems are buckling under the weight of suffering.
Darkness descended upon Lebanon. Death became a culture
Across the border, Syria continues to face an equally urgent crisis. Fifteen years of conflict have left 15.6 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, with needs stretching across 70% of the country. More than half of Syria’s pre‑war population has been displaced, and 90% of all Syrians now live below the poverty line. UN and SOHR estimates record between 580,000 and 656,493 deaths.
Darkness has defined both nations, and the question that remains is how light can be restored.
We believe the answer can be found in one source, and one source alone: THE CHURCH.
Zechariah 4:6 was spoken to a leader standing in the ruins of a nation, facing a task far greater than his strength. Zerubbabel was called to rebuild the Temple after years of exile, trauma, and national collapse. The people were discouraged, resources were scarce, enemies were hostile, and the work had stalled. Into that moment of exhaustion, God declared:
“Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit,” says the LORD Almighty.
This word is not only ancient; it is prophetic for Lebanon and Syria today.
The church in both nations stands in a landscape of destruction that mirrors the rubble of Jerusalem in Zerubbabel’s day. Entire districts have been shattered. Families have been uprooted. Leaders are carrying burdens heavier than their strength. Ministries are stretched beyond capacity. The human resources are limited, the political environment is unstable, and the emotional weight is overwhelming.
Yet God speaks the same word now that He spoke then.
But this time, you and I are included
So, we at dia-LOGOS are launching OPERATION ETERNAL LIGHT in Lebanon and Syria.
A group from South Africa, joined by partners from Australia, Scotland, Germany, Namibia and Tanzania, will travel to these two ravaged nations as we seek to strengthen and encourage those who remain as messengers of hope. The focus will be on those who seek to heal where darkness has broken, those who work to gather where violence has scattered, and to those who speak life where despair has silenced communities.
To ignite this movement, we will gather thirty‑six ministry and church leaders from across Lebanon and Syria for a time of Koinonia — deep fellowship, shared encouragement, and spiritual mobilisation. This gathering will strengthen leaders who are carrying immense burdens and will equip them to shine light into their communities. In addition, we will provide direct support to fourteen churches and ministries serving displaced families, widows, orphans, and vulnerable communities on the frontlines of suffering. These churches are often the only remaining lifeline of hope.
The total support needed for this initiative is US$7,000 (R110,000.00). Every cent raised will be given to local believers. This investment will provide essential assistance to frontline ministries, and help launch OPERATION ETERNAL LIGHT as a sustained movement of compassion and presence in a region overwhelmed by crisis.
In a moment when darkness has spoken loudly, the church must speak louder still. Operation Eternal Light is not simply a project; it is a declaration that hope is stronger than despair, that mercy is stronger than violence, and that Christ’s light still shines in the darkest places. Your partnership will help restore hope, strengthen leaders, and empower the church to stand as the only remaining beacon of light in Lebanon and Syria.
